I am very grateful to have Mr Tan as my form teacher and biology teacher. Even though I already like the subject by itself, he made it 10 times more interesting and enjoyable. I always look forward to every one of his lessons because he somehow always manages to make it very interactive. I really like his teaching style! He is the first teacher that I met who annotates so much on the notes and goes through it in so much detail just to help his students to understand and really, it does help us to understand the concepts better! At first when I saw that he would consolidate and write down our common error for each of our assignments and annotate his feedback, I was thinking which teacher would spend their time to prepare so much just to go through corrections because most would just show the answer sheet, but I am very thankful to Mr Tan for doing that because it really helped us to understand our mistakes better!
Although sometimes the class is noisy or distracted, Mr Tan seems to handle it very well without scolding us. He is also approachable and always willing to answer all our questions! Till the point where our class would have too many questions and he had to ask us to meet him after class, but I guess it shows our passion for biology and how approachable he is! I would have a lot of last minute questions before our exams, but Mr Tan always answers them patiently and meets us for consultations to clear our doubts.

Mr Tan always seeks to improve our lessons and use innovative methods. For boring content such as going through TYS, he somehow found new ways to make it entertaining (e.g. incorporating bingo cards), and for learning new concepts, he used physical simulations such as the the natural selection simulation activity and human polynucleotide linking activity. These allowed us to remember the concepts more vividly while having fun.

Mr Joshua Tan created many different games to stimulate our learning and encourage participation. His unique and innovative approach to teaching biology helped us grasp concepts better and also the game and prizes encourages us to do our best in class. Almost every lesson, he has a new game up his sleeves. He also goes the extra mile to prepare us video lessons for sick students and extra online lessons for us to better understand what was taught in class.

I am deeply grateful to Mr Tan for everything he has done for our class, from mini games and entertaining our questions to interactive activities to enhance our knowledge and understanding. His hard work, effort and passion can be felt through his actions and is commendable. Mr Tan has presented and dissected harder to understand concepts into bite-sized concepts that further facilitated our learning in the classroom. Thank you to Mr Tan for going above and beyond to make learning engaging and meaningful. He is truly an inspirational teacher and us as students could learn so much from him. His unwavering support and encouragement has motivated me to continue pressing on and working hard.

Mr Tan is an amazing teacher for being able to let us have as much fun as we learn. He puts in so much effort to make sure we enjoy the lessons and that we can understand the concepts being taught! He also tries his best to get all of us to participate in class too. Mr Tan is a teacher with silly humor and made us share a laugh in class.
He has also been a form teacher who cared so much about us, taking the time to talk to me after I was upset for doing poorly in a test. He took the time to understand where I might have gone wrong in my revision and gave me advice to help me do better next time, which helped me a lot!! He was really a teacher that nurtured my interest in Biology. He has been the best Biology teacher I could have asked for and his lessons have undeniably left a mark on my life.

Mr Tan is a wonderful biology teacher. His way of teaching is special. He is able to make complex concepts simple and easy to understand. I remember a particular incident in Sec 1 WA1, I scored a B4 with tons of careless mistakes, and he said, “it’s fine, it’s careless mistake, you’ll do better the next time”. Rather simple per se, but that encouragement did “spark” something in me to be the student I am today. His lessons were also something that I truly love. It really makes me put back my faith in Biology. Thank you to Mr Tan for all the support, the prizes and the effort he has put in throughout the years.

I am genuinely so thankful to have Mr Tan as my teacher! He is such an inspiration. He is always so patient and understanding to us. In fact, he is the most patient teacher I have seen so far. It is also surprising to recall that he has actually never been mad before as he has such good temper and patience, which are traits that a good teacher has!
