"Mr Tan is a very funny, light-hearted yet highly experienced and caring teacher. His lessons are always filled with the sounds of laughter, yet everyone goes off with new knowledge every lesson. Asking questions in class or even challenging answer keys are not taboo actions, but instead common occurrences that helped me understand the rationale behind certain answer keys and concepts.
One of my favourite parts of Mr Tan’s lessons were his topical summaries, which he would create live in class with us. These summaries helped me to develop a comprehensive understanding of each Biology topic – a great aid as I did not watch my Biology lectures and instead relied on Mr Tan’s summaries to learn the various topics.
Mr Tan is also a highly encouraging teacher, understanding the stresses of being in JC. He frequently checks in on each of his pupils to find out how they are coping with school, especially during the examination peak periods.
In summary, Mr Tan’s humour, experience and patience render him a highly effective teacher that is well-liked by most, if not all of his students. I am truly grateful to have had him as my Biology tutor, and owe my distinction in the A-levels to him."

"Mr Tan is a highly professional and experienced Biology tutor who never fails to keep his lessons engaging, yet enriching and fruitful. His wealth of experience in the field of Biology – both within and beyond JC syllabus – allowed him to shed much insight into the various topics, greatly assisting me in forming crucial intertopic linkages. This understanding of how each Biology topic is interconnected was a significant aid in tackling my Biology papers.
As a teacher, Mr Tan carries himself to a very high standard – always preparing for classes in advance and sharing lesson road maps. His lesson plans also caters to the needs and requests of the class – enabling us to address our weaker concepts in greater detail. He frequently champions for smart studying techniques, and shares much study and revision advice to aid in examination preparation. Mr Tan also does not shy away from being a teacher after classes end – he always responds to my clarifications and questions on WhatsApp.
Of the many classes I had attended in my life, Mr Tan’s classes undeniably had one of the best classroom environments. There was no coldness in the class, but rather a sense of comfort and patience that encouraged me to frequently raise my hand and seek clarifications. Such pleasant experiences in the classroom curated a highly conducive study environment, and motivated me to look forward to Mr Tan’s lessons even after a long day. Ultimately, I am confident that if not for Mr Tan’s patient and caring teaching, I would not have developed the passion and interest that I hold for Biology today, and definitely would not have attained an A in H2 Biology at the A-levels."
